Let's face it, the list of things our kids don’t really like can be pretty long. Then there are certain tasks and activities that they just plain despise. As parents and caregivers, it's important to understand what those tasks are and find ways to make them more bearable for our little ones (and in turn make our lives more bearable!).
Let's dive into what we reckon are the top five things that kids hate doing:
Cleaning Their Room
Oh boy, this one's a doozy. Tidying up their room can feel like a major pain in the butt for many kids, not to mention overwhelming. But by letting them feel responsible for the space it can change their attitude towards it. When they do clean up, don't correct their 'mistakes', let them learn where things go and feel the benefits of playing in a nice clean room.
Taking Medicine
Yuck, medicine. Who likes taking that nasty stuff? It can have an unpleasant taste, smell and it's not apart of their regular routine. It's no wonder kids dread taking it. But make sure to explain to them WHY you need them to take it, and give them some autonomy in the process. Maybe they can give some to their toy or doll and then to themselves so they don't feel alone in the process.
Eating Vegetables
Now, we all know vegetables are good for us, but for many kids, they're about as appealing as getting your wisdom teeth out. They may not like the taste, texture, or the idea of eating them in general. Make sure you set a good example by getting your 5 serves of veg and when cooking get your kids involved in the kitchen with veggies to stir up some excitement about eating them.
Going to bed
Bedtime, the ultimate enemy of many children. They may be afraid of the dark, dislike being alone, or just have trouble winding down at night. Going to bed can be a real struggle for some kids. Setting up a good routine can be key for a peaceful bedtime. Try reading them a story or putting on a sleep podcast to help them switch off their minds and drift off to dream land.
Brushing their teeth
2 whole minutes of just standing their brushing their teeth (and doing it twice a day) is just too much boredom for some kids to handle. But this boredom is easy to bust with the BRUSHY podcast! Our 2 minute episodes are filled with cool facts and funny jokes that will make the time fly by for your kids. Partner that with being apart of the BRUSHY club and they'll even be excited when it's time to brush their teeth, imagine that!We hope we've sparked some ideas on how you can make some of these dreaded tasks easier for your little ones (and you!).
